Preminary results about method of harvest's effect on the propolis' content of lead

Flavonoids, the main bioactive compounds of propolis, have tendency to chelate metals as the lead, that becomes one of the main polluting agents of propolis. The lead found in propolis can come from environment or being incorporated in the harvest, extraction and processing. The objective of this work is to evaluate the effect of the harvest method on lead content in argentine propolis. A randomized test was made, with three treatments and ten repetitions by treatment. 24 samples were taken and consisted of the propolis collected of the treatments: separating wedges (traditional), netting plastic meshes and stamped out plastic meshes. The lead level obtained for the three methods of harvest is inferior to the values reported in bibliography for Brazilian propolis. With respect to the effect of the method of harvest on the lead content, from statistical analysis it can conclude that there are significant differences between the scraped method and the mesh methods (stamped out and netting meshes). The obtained preliminary results in the present assay would allow to conclude that the methods of meshes are more advisable than scraped methods to obtain innocuous and safe propolis, with minor lead' s content.
