Studies on ecology and control of verticillium wilt of cabbage [Brassica oleracea]
2006
Kenmochi, I.(Gunma-ken. Agricultural Technology Center, Isesaki (Japan))
Verticillium wilt of cabbage (Verticillium dahliae Klebahn, V. longisporum Karapapa Stark) was found for the first time at the important vegetables-production region (Tsumagoi-mura area of Gumma prefecture) with harvest time is from summer to fail in 1993. At the cabbage production region, there is a possibility that this disease would become the 3rd soil-borne disease following Fusarium Yellows (Fusarium oxysporum Schlechtendahl) and Clubroot diseases (Plasmodiophora brassicae Woronin), and establishment of the immediate control measures against the Verticillium wilt was requested. Although some studies were done at North America (United States, Canada) or at the domestic production region (Hokkaido, Nagano prefecture), this disease has not been under a detailed investigation and has many unknown points. This research was primary devoted to the disease ecology at the high land vegetable production region within the Gumma prefecture, and establishment of control measures against it.
