Peculiarities related to the outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolyticus food poisoning cases were studied in terms of the frequency of occurrence and the number of patients from 1988 through 1997 given in the "List for Outbreaks of Food Poisoning in Japan", issued by the Japan Food Hygiene Association. Vibrio parahaemolyticus food poisoning cases occurred at the highest frequency on August 14th, August 15th, August 16th, September 15th and September 16th according to the mean value and the coefficient of variation of the frequency of occurrence and the number of patients. Cases of Vibrio parahaemolyticus food poisoning frequently occurred on August 15th. From the above results, we found outbreaks in terms of the frequency of occurrence and the number of patients were concentrated in the middle of August and September. Both the highest frequency of occurrence and the largest number of patients were significantly noted on Sunday among days of the week.
