In this experiment, we made a deodorization apparatus for covered type compost depots on a experimental basis that is inexpensive, simple and efficient, and the apparatus was tested for practical use in a daily farm in Gifu Prefecture. The apparatus using a water scrubber method consisted of a used spot cooler for ventilation and a water pump for water circulation. Water was sprinkled over the net set up just outside the air outtake of the compost depot, collected through drains and circulated to use repeatedly. The net made of silk cloth material 50% mixed polyethylene fiber (silk cloth 50% mixed PEF) was used to increase its water absorption. By the operation of the apparatus, ammonia gas content of the air coming out of the compost depot was decreased by 50% (from 120 ppm to 60 ppm).
