Simulation on the environment mitigation effects of plant canopies with different plant species and the stratification

A high-tree plantation that intercepts noxious ultraviolet rays and forms a cool spot on hot days in summer has high utility value as a field for environment learning, sports and leisure activities, so it is an important constituent of sustainable urban areas. This study proposes an idea of Cool Island Potential (CIP) as a green quantity index to predict both the urban environment relaxation effects and microclimate relaxation function of trees, and demonstrates the appropriateness of using the plant growth model AMAP (Atelier of Modeling of Architecture Plants) in the calculation of CIP, through the actual measurement of Leaf Area Index (LAI). The obtained results are as follows: 1. For the leaf surface area used for the calculation of CIP, the calculation using the polygon data of the plant growth model AMAP is more accurate than the technique of conventional research that substitutes a geometrical body for a tree. 2. CIP that was calculated in an area of 20 m x 20 m has high correlation with MRT and CSE, and it is a green quantity index that can evaluate both the heat island relaxation function and amenity improvement function of a green space.
