The new simple excavation method at sandy field with dust collector

We improved the excavation method that uses a vacuum cleaner in a sandy soil, and developed a vacuum method using the dust collector. First, the digging performance of the vacuum method was verified. The digging ability was examined in the sand dune, and it took 8.5 minutes to dig up to 5m, 24.8 minutes to dig 10m, and 70.6 minutes to dig 2lm. There was no correlation between the digging speed and sand hardness by the penetration test. The speed was controlled by the total pipe length. But, it was impossible to vacuum in the weathering basement rock whose Nc value was about 40, and the clay layer with large adhesive power between soil particles. It was impossible to dig when the sand was saturated with groundwater. The performance of the vacuum method was compared with that of a well sinking machine and a hand auger. With the vacuum method, it was possible to dig at 7- 11 times the speed of the other 2 methods. The operational cost of the vacuum method was less than half that of others. Moreover, the digging accuracy was good because extra sand was not exhausted to target depth. The usability of the vacuum method was checked. It has been understood that everyone can dig easily regardless of the experience or sex. Therefore, it could be concluded that the vacuum method is a very useful excavation method in a sandy soil.
