Green moisture content of sugi [Cryptomeria japonica] felled at the new of the moon and the full of the moon in every month
2006
Ikeda, K.(Shizuoka-ken. Forestry and Forest Products Research Inst., Hamakita (Japan))
Fifteen sugi (Cryptomeria japonica:D.Don.) standing trees were felled at the new of the moon and at the full of the moon in every month to December, 2003 - October, 2004 on the forest with 21 of ages. The moisture content (G-MC) of greenwood, the apparent density and the oven-dried density were investigated immediately after felling and those changes within the month and the season were evaluated. As for the average of the G-MC which was felled on the new moon and the full moon, a significant difference was not admitted by both days in sapwood and heartwood, it thought that the change of the G-MC of sugi tree trunk in the month was very small. The change by the month and the season of G-MC of sugi seemed to be small compared with the looseness among the individuals and it thought that there were few influences which the difference of the felling time (day, month, season) exerts on the drying processing after the sawing timbers about moisture content on stem.
