Species diversity and communities of macromycetes in different age (ca. 70, 100 and 150 years old) Picea abies stands were studied in 2003. Three study plots, each 1000 square m in size located in western Lithuania were visited 8-9 times from May till October. In total 106 species of macromycetes were determined: 4 species of ascomycetes and 102 species of basidiomycetes. The number of species per plot ranged from 41 to 61. 11 species were recorded in every plot. Majority of fungi (71 species) was observed only in a single plot. Very rare for Lithuania macromycete species, Collybia prolixa, Postia ptychogaster, and Pycnoporellus fulgens (included in Lithuanian Red Data Book) were identified. Results demonstrated differences in species composition and trophical structure among successional forest age-classes. Presence of indicators of old and primeval forests, Phellinus chrysoloma and Pycnoporellus fulgens, in plot No 3 (Woodland Key Habitat) probably indicate that the ecosystem have been persisting there without major disturbance during a long period of time.
