Relationship between Verticillium alboatrum strain morphogenesis andmolecular fingerprints

Morphological characteristics of three different groups of isolates ofVerticillium alboatrum which had previously been differentiated on the basis ofrDNA polymorphism and mtDNA RFLPS, were studied. Nature and extent ofvariability differed between different groups of isolates. Statisticallysignificant differences were observed in mean phalidae count (MPC), meanphalidae size (MPSz) and mean interverticil distance (MIVD), among groups ofV. alboatrum. Highest MPC was noticed in group lb (3.21) as compared tolowest in group la (2.10). The MPSz was largest in group la (47.40 mum) andlowest in group 2 (31.19 mum). Highest MIVD was observed in group la andgroup 2 (50.40 and 49.37 mum, respectively) with lowest in group 16 andgroup 3 (36.6 and 38.47 mum, respectively).
