The influence of reduced tillage on changes of some physical properties of soil

Changes in some soil properties under the influence of various cultivation techniques were tested with winter wheat experiment in 1999-02. The soil density appeared slightly changed due to the cultivation technique. In the 0-5 cm layer with direct sowing the bulk density decreased, whereas soil compaction was found to be more related to its moisture. Ploughing with chisel and direct sowing brought about increased compaction of soil down the 30 cm depth. In the years with low water content in soil, after autumn-winter season the reduced tillage, particularly direct sowing, contributed to better retention of moisture in soil
