The analysis of fatty acid changes of the subcutaneous fat of 6- to 14-months-old sheep

The fatty acids of the subcutaneous fat of sheep was estimated at the same animals at the age of 6 months and then 14 months. This was possible by using an original method of fat samples collection by biopsy from the tail root part, which was elaborated by the authors. The composition and content of fatty acids (FA) were determined by gas chromatography. A significant decrease of the SFA and a high significant increase of the UFA together with age of the sheep were observed. In unsaturated fatty acid groups, MUFA increased significantly, particularly oleic acid, but PUFA decreased significantly.
