From the seven species: Azospirillum that have been described only A. brasilense and A. lipoferum have been isolated from soil and roots of different varieties of grasses and cereals. Like in other diazotrophic bacteria, nitrogen fixation of Azospirillum is regulated by nitrogen and oxygen and the transcriptional level in a nifLA type regulation. The nitrogenase activity is also regulated at the posttranslation level
