Understanding the effect of water depths on growth of sedges is rather limited. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of water depth levels on growth and yield of two local sedge cultivars. Paddy field studies were conducted at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, King Mongkuts Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang, during November 1999 to April 2000. The experimental design was a split plot in randomized complete block with 3 replications. Main plots were two local sedge cultivars (Chantraburi and Suphanburi). Sub plots were 6 levels of water depth included 0 (saturated soil), 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 centimetres. The results showed that plant height, stem dry weight and yield of two sedge cultivars were not significantly different. Different levels of water depth affected on growth and yield of sedges. At each growth stages, sedge grown under highest water depth (40 centimetres) gave the highest plant height, stem dry weight, stem number per hill, stem diameter and yield and followed by 30, 20, 10 and 5 centimetres water depth treatments, respectively while sedge grown at 0 cm water depth gave the lowest.
