Comparative studies of artificial sweeteners with diabetic patients

The aim of our study was to assess effect of dietary biscuits prepared with aspartame and acesulfame-K on plasma glucose. Material and methods:We investigated 35 patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus and 9 healthy controls. Plasma glucose was evaluated - fasting and 2 hours after consumption of 100g biscuits prepared with aspartame and acesulfame-K. Results: Both artificial sweeteners didn't different significantly concerning glycemic increase. That parameter is higher in group with type 2 diabetes mellitus, due to more badly initial glycemic control. No secondary effects were registrated after taking of dietary biscuits. Conclusion: Aspartame and acesulfame-K were with good indices after examination with dietary biscuits. Poor glycemic control influences glycemic increase. Both artificial sweeteners would successfully be used in food industry.
