First report of clover yellow vien virus (CLYVV) in green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Bulgaria.

Clover yellow vein virus ( ClYVV) was isolated from green beans for the first time in Bulgaria. The identification was carried out by electron microscopy at the Institute of Plant Virology, Torino, Italy and by PTA ELISA at Maritsa Institute. An isolate, (ClYVV BG), was biologically characterized on different test-plants. Chenopodium quinoa reacted locally as well as systemically by development of numerous chlorotic lesions. Nicotiana benthamiana and N. clevelandii appeared to be excellent systemic host plants. N. tabacum cv. White Burley, Datura stramonium, Gomphrena globosa, Cucumis sativus, Lycopersicon esculentum and Capsicum annuum were not infected by the isolate. The preliminary tests with a number of P. vulgaris varieties and accessions, highly resistant to Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV), established resistance also to ClYVV. This was the reason to include in screening tests only BCMV resistant breeding materials, possessing differe nt gene combinations for BCMV resistance. According to their ClYVV susceptibility they were divided into three groups: mosaic susceptible, necrotic susceptible and resistant. Visually the resistance was expressed as immune (symptomless) or as hypersensitive reaction. The similarity in phenotypic segregations of ВСМV и ClYVV resistant genotypes suggested the presence of allelic relationships of genes for resistance to the both viruses.
