Study on the extrusion process for the production of floating type combined forage for fish
2007
Danova, L.
Studies were carried out on the extrusion process for production of floating type combined forage for fish. An experimental mixture for feeding of trout was used. The experiments were carried out at three levels of water content in the forage – 20, 23 и 26 % and three temperature regimes in the range of 120 0, 130 0 и 150 0 С with double-auger extruder. The influence of the moisture and temperature of conditioning on the capacity of extruder and the quality of the produced forage concerning the characteristic density and expansion index were studied. The results of the experiment showed that a linear relation existed between the moisture of the material treated by the extrusion and the capacity of the machinery – the extrusion capacity increased with the increase of moisture. The smaller light cross-section of the matrix holes /240 mm2/ influenced the loading of the main engine of the extruder – the higher pressure in the matrix area led to a higher energy for overcoming the resistance. The higher extrusion temperature led to a higher extent of expansion of the extrudants and their density decreased with the increase of the extrusion temperature.
