Semerdzhiev, V.
The phagocytic activity - phagocytic number (PN) and phagocytosis percentage (PP) were studied in 6 goats and 6 bucks at the age of 3-(PP), 6-month-old doelings and bucklings from the dairy goat breeds Bulgarian Dairy breed (BDB), Toggenburg and Anglo-Nubian, reared in the Institute of Mountain Stockbreeding and Agriculture, Troyan, 9 BDB goats reared in the Experimental Farm of the Thracian University – Stara Zagora, 6 goats from local breeds from each of the settlements of Bogomilovo, Stara Zagora and Anevo, Karlovo region as well as 3 local 6-month doelings from the Bogomilovo settlement. There was a tendency towards lower phagocytic activity in goats compared to bucks, whereas in 6-month old doelings it was higher than that in bucklings. Young animals had higher phagocytic index values compared to adult goats and bucks. In doelings, the PN values were higher when compared to adult female goats, and in bucklings – lower than PN in adult buck s. The correlation of PN and PP in goats was positive and moderate to high (P 0.05 – 0.001) except for Anglo-Nubian bucks.
