[A new sweet cherry variety Medunitsa]

Medunitsa is a new sweet cherry variety with mid-early ripening fruits, which has been bred at the Institute for Fruit Growing of the NAS of Belarus (authors are M.I. Vyshinskaya, A.A. Taranov, V.S. Zhuk) as a result of cross between the varieties 'Narodnaya' and 'Yaroslavna'. These varieties are distinguished by winter hardiness, productivity, resistance to cherry leaf spot, large fruits (mean fruit weight is 5.7 g), firm consistence of flesh (Bigarreau), high taste and market qualities. Thus the new variety Medunitsa does not let Severnaya variety on adaptation and productivity. Severnaya variety is the most winter hardy. Medunitsa variety significantly excels Severnaya variety on fruits quality, approaching to the southern varieties on present sign. The origin and morphological descriptions and also the economic and biological characteristic of Medunitsa variety are presented
