Comparative Evaluation of the Development and Growth of the Potato, Oca, and Isaño in Cochabamba, Bolivia | Evaluación comparativa del desarrollo y crecimiento de papa, oca e isaño en Cochabamba, Bolivia

Spanish; Castilian. En la gestión agrícola 1995-1996 se evaluó el desarrollo y cre¬cimiento de los cultivos de papa, oca e isaño en la Estación Ex¬perimental Toralapa (3,450 msnm). Se realizaron observaciones en las fases de desarrollo considerando los macroestadíos (porcentaje de emergencia, inicio de la tuberización, inicio de la floración y madurez fisiológica). Para el análisis de crecimiento se efectuaron 10 muestreos destructivos periódicamente para obtener el peso seco de los. diferentes órganos de la planta. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que la papa (variedad Waych'a) es más precoz en el desarrollo respecto a la oca e isaño llegando a su completa madurez fisiológica a los 175 días después de siembra. La oca (variedad Puka ñawi) e isaño (variedad Anaranjada) requieren un período mayor a los 200 días después de la siembra para llegar a su completa madurez fisiológica. Los tres cultivos completan sus fases de cre¬cimiento en diferentes períodos, además se ha observado que el cultivo de oca requiere un mayor tiempo para llegar a completar su última fase de crecimiento. La papa presenta una tasa de crecimiento de cultivo mayor (26.9 g/m *día) respecto a la oca e isaño (9.9 y 17.31 g/m2*día). La papa presenta también un mayor índice de -rea Foliar (4.5 m2/m) con respecto a la oca e isaño (2.5 y 3.6 m2/m2, respectivamente). En cuanto al rendimiento final, se registró 30.3 t/ha en la papa, 21.9 t/ha en la oca y 33.2 t/ha en el isaño. Cabe mencionar que el isaño presenta un mayor contenido de agua en tubérculos (90%) frente a la oca (84%) y la papa (75.1%).

During 1995-96, a study was conducted on the development and growth of the potato, oca and isaño crops under the environ-mental conditions of the Toralapa Experimental Research Station (3,450 masl). The study was done in a descriptive form based on polynomial and logistic regressions. Observations were made taking into account the macrostages of the development phases (% of emergence, beginning of tuberization, beginning of flowering period, and physiological maturity). For the growth analysis, 10 destructive samplings were done periodically to obtain the dry weight of the different plants' organs. The results obtained showed that the potato (var. Waych'a) presented a faster development than the oca and isaño crops, reaching complete physiological maturity at 175 DAP (Days After Planting). The oca (var. Puka ñawi) and isaño (var. Anaranjada) required a period longer than 200 DAP to reach complete physiological maturity. The growth phases of the three crops were achieved at different times, and it was observed that the oca crop needed more time to complete its last growth phase. The potato showed a Crop Rate Growth (26.9 g/m2*day) which was more than that of oca and isaño (9.9 and 17.31 g/m2*day). The potato also presented a higher Leaf Area Index (4.5m2/m) than oca and isaño (2.5 and 3.6m2/m2). As regards to total yield, the potato produced 30.3 t/ha, oca 21.9 t/ha and isaño 33.2 t/ha. It should be mentioned that isaño presented a higher percentage of water content (90%) than oca (86%) and potato (75.1%).
