Se informa el ácaro Pyemotes (= Pediculoides) ventricosus (Newport) (Pyemotidae), el cual fue hallado parasitando a Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) (Gelechidae), usado en los Laboratorios de Lucha Biológica de la Dirección Provincial de Sanidad Vegetal del Ministerio de la Agricultura, para la obtención de huevos que más tarde son utilizados en el parasitismo de Trichogramma spp. (Himenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), insecto biorregulador de varias plagas agrícolas cuyo empleo en la agricultura va en aumento en nuestro país. El ácaro provoca la muerte de un gran número de mariposas con la lógica disminución de la producción de huevos. Además, este ácaro fue el causante del gran escozor presentado en el personal técnico que laboró en las crías masivas de este insecto.

The mite Pyemotes (= Pediculoides) ventricosus (Newport) (Pyemotidae) is reported as having been found parasiting Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) (Gelechidae) which is used at the Biological Control Laboratories of the Provincial Direction of Plant Health, Ministry of Agriculture, to obtain eggs later used for rearing Trichogramma spp. (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) a bioregulator of various agricultural insect pests, which is being used more and more in our agriculture. This mite kills a great number of months with the resulting decrease of egg production. Furthermore, this mite caused a strong itching to the technical staff which worked at the mass rearing of this insect.
