Distribución e incidenica de los nematodos parásitos asociados al cultivo de la guayaba.

En muestreos efectuados a 67 plantaciones de guayabo de seis provincias del país, se determinó que están asociados al cultivo 72 especies de nematodos fitoparásitos, fundamentalmente, pertenecientes a los géneros Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus, Helicotylenchus y Xiphinema, aunque los daños más grandes se observan cuando aparece el primero. Se determinó que en los árboles de guayabo afectados por Meloidoqyne, las mayores densidades poblacionales aparecen a 30 cm de profundidad y entre 75 y 235 cm a partir del tronco horizontalmente. Pudo notarse, además, que cuando las plantaciones infestadas aún conservan su capacidad regenerativa de raíces, el incremento de las medidas agrotécnicas puede retardar el declinamiento de las plantas y que, generalmente, las que manifiestan los síntomas de 'meloidoginosisis', soportan poblaciones superiores a 300 larvas por 10 de raíces.

By sampling 67 guava plantations in 6 of our provinces, it was determined that 72 species of phytoparasitic nematodes belonging to the genera Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus, Helicotylenchus and Xiphinema were associated with this crop, althoug the worst damages were observed there the first of them was present. It was determined that on the guava trees affected by Meloidogyne, the highest population densities appear at a depth of 30 cm and, horizontally, between 75 and 235 cm from the stem. Furthermore, it was noted that when the infested plantation still retains its root regeneration capacity, an increase of agrotechnical measures may delay the tree decline and, generally, those showing symptoms of 'meloidogynosis' support populations of more than 300 larvas por 10 grams of root.
