Thrips palmi Karny en la agricultura cubana.

Con el objetivo de dar respuesta a las numerosas interrogantes presentadas a partir de la aparición de Thrips palmi Karny en Cuba, se estableció un sistema de rastreo y evaluaciones de campo para detectar la presencia de la plaga en los cultivos, plantas silvestres y malezas. La confirmación del diagnóstico se realizó en el Laboratorio Central de Cuarentena Vegetal. La distribución inicial se extendió de forma progresiva por diferentes municipios de las provincias de Pinar del Río, La Habana, Ciudad de La Habana y Matanzas. La incidencia de T. palmi en este período incluía un número considerable de cultivos. La distribución hacia la región oriental del país ocurrió más lentamente que dentro de la occidental. Entre los principales daños se encuentran los causados tanto a las hojas como a las flores en las diferentes especies. En estos momentos la mayor infestación se encuentra en la papa y el frijol;no obstante, la categoría de infestación ligera adquirió la mayor proporción, y las áreas con infestación intensa sólo se manifestaron en la papa y el frijol, siendo nulas en el resto de los cultivos.

A survey system for detecting the presence of Thrips palmi Karny in crops, wild plants and weeds in Cuba was established with the aim to give response about the numerous interrogate according to the incidence of this pest. The diagnostics confirm was made in the Central Plant Quarantine Laboratory. A progressive expansion in the initial distribution was observed for different municipalities of Pinar del Río, Havana, Havana City and Matanzas provinces. At that period the incidence of T. palmi included a vast number of crops. The distribution to the east region occurs more slowly than the west regions in Cuba. The principal damages were found in the leaves and flowers of different species of plants. At the present the mostly infestation of T. palmi is find in potato and bean crops; nevertheless the light infestation category got the best proportion in relation with the total of affected areas, has been useless in the crops rest.
