During studies on coffee rhizosphere in Cuba, two different isolates of Verticillium psalliotae were recorded from eggs of Meloidogyne spp. The aim of this work was to study in details the morphology and cultural characterization of these two Cuban isolates and their temperature relationships, and to confirm their ability to parasitize eggs of Meloidogyne spp. in vitro. The colones of the isolate Cv-15 on MEA are white deeply cottony (3-4 mm) with reverse yellow to dark brown centrally and conidia transversely positioned on the phialide, formed in small slimy head, in small groups of 2 to 6/phialide. In the case of the isolate Cv-78, the colones were white, floccose mycelium and conidia in slimy head, in groups of 10 to 20/phialide. In both isolates, the dictiochlamydospores were absent. None of the tested isolates grew at 5 and 10°C in pure culture. The most important differences among isolates were found in the numbers of conidia produced at 25°C and 32°C. Both isolates produce more conidias/mm2 at 32°C than 25°C but the isolate Cv-78 produces more conidia/mm2 at both temperatures than Cv-15. Both isolates of V psalliotae showed the ability to infect more than 65 percent of eggs of M incognita, in vitro. It is a first report of V. psalliotae as a parasite from eggs of Meloidogyne spp.

Durante estudios de la rizosfera de cafeto en Cuba fueron recobrados dos cepas de Verticillium psalliotae de huevos de Meloidogyne spp. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo realizar una detallada caracterización morfológica y cultural de estas dos cepas, evaluar su relación de temperatura y confirmar su habilidad para colonizar huevos de Meloidogyne spp. in vitro. El aislamiento Cv-15 posee colonias blanco algodonoso, profundas, en Agar Extracto de Malta, conidios transversalmente posesionados en la fiálide, formados en pequeñas cabezas viscosas, en pequeños grupos de 2 a 6/ fiálide. En el caso del aislamiento Cv-78 las colonias fueron blancas de aspecto flocuoso y los conidios formados en cabezas viscosas en grupos de 10 a 20/fiálide. En ambos aislamientos, las clamidosporas estuvieron ausentes. Ninguno de los aislamientos creció a 5 y 10°C en cultivo puro. Las diferencias más importantes se detectaron en la esporulación a 25°C y 32°C. Ambos aislamientos producen más conidias/mm2 a 32°C que a 25°C, mientras que el aislamiento Cv-78 produce más conidios/mm2 para ambas temperaturas que Cv-15. Los dos aislamientos de V. psalliotae mostraron habilidad para parasitar más del 65 % de los huevos de M. incognita in vitro. Este es el primer reporte de V. psalliotae como parásito de huevos de Meloidogyne spp.
