Damage assessment of Wheat and Barley by stored pest in some provinces of Iran.

Stored pests are one of the damaging factors in producing and storing stages of grains such as wheat. By feeding and contaminating of the grains these pests cause a great amount of product loss in storage stage. Evaluating and awareness of the amount of damage is necessary to devise a pest control plan. In order to have an access to damage amount of wheat and barley in rural stores, this project was implemented in Tehran, Zanjan, Hamadan, Khuzestan and Sistan o Baluchestan provinces in two years. Different methods are common to evaluate the amount of damage. Based on the presence of facility and conditions of different regions, we chose Gravimetric method. In each province considering the production rate, we chose 2-3 cities, and in every city we chose 2-3 counties for sampling. Our study was based on quantity damage and we calculated the weight loss. The result showed that the damage average in Tehran, Zanjan, Hamadan, Khuzestan and Sistan o Baluchestan was 6.85, 3.20, 1.86, 12.64 and 44.03% respectively and grains humidity average was 7.96, 6.28, 9.86, 6.42, 12.93% respectively. In most of the provinces a considerable correlation between humidity and damage was found. Because of the differences in the quantity of grain kept in rural stores and governmental stores, carrying out a similar project in governmental stores is recommended to plan control programs.
