[The sister chromatid exchange (SCE) has been widely used to evaluate the stability level of genome in different species subjected to exposition to the action of mutagenic substances (natural and synthetic) occurring in the environment. The aim of this study was the comparison of genome stability in Casertana, an endangered (FAO, 1995) and indigenous breed of Campania region, prevalently half-wild raised, and Italian Large White, highly selected and intensively raised. In each breed 15 subjects of age below 8 months were examined and for each animal 35 metaphases were studied. SCE means and standard deviations were 4.69 +- 2.22 in Casertana and 4.38 +- 2.40 in Large white.]

Il test dello scambio intercromatidico (SCE) è stato largamente impiegato per valutare il grado di stabilità del genoma di svariate specie sottoposte all´azione di sostanze mutagene (sia naturali, sia di sintesi) presenti nell´ambiente. Lo scopo di questo lavoro è stato quello di confrontare la stabilità del genoma di due razze suine, la Casertana, a rischio di estinzione (FAO, 1995), originaria della Campania, allevata nella maggior parte dei casi allo stato semibrado, e la Large White Italiana, altamente selezionata, allevata in modo intensivo. Per ciascuna razza sono stati esaminati 15 soggetti di età inferiore a 8 mesi e per ogni animale sono state studiate 35 metafasi. I valori della media e della deviazione standard di SCE sono stati nella Casertana di 4,69 +- 2,22 e nella Large White Italiana 4,38 +- 2,40
