English. Wildfires are a major disturbance in forest ecosystems. In areas characterized by a great wildfire incidence, they are a relevant critical element. Wildfire role in determining biodiversity changes has been frequently underlined; a better understanding of the links between fire, biological diversity and forest management is however crucial. The present work studies wildfire influence on stand structure and species diversity in Mediterranean forests for the assessment of biodiversity and its evolution in time following a fire event. The study area was located in Savona province. Two wildfires (occurred respectively during August 1998 and August 2003) were selected as study cases. Six plots (each with a surface of 2,500 square m), established within burned and non-burned forest stands, were compared. The present paper reports the first results obtained in two of the above mentioned plots, burned in 1998 and 2003, respectively. All live trees, coarse woody debris and standing dead trees were topographically mapped. Tree and shrub layers were already surveyed, while the herbaceous layer will by analyzed during the next growing season. Different species and structural diversity indices were used. In particular, point pattern analysis was realized to study the spatial distribution within plots, applying Ripley's function. Those indices allowed to point out some species and structural diversity changes induced by fire, at least after a few years since the event occurrence. The obtained results will help in the definition of guidelines for a sustainable forest management aiming at preserving biodiversity

Gli incendi boschivi sono un grave fattore di disturbo per gli ecosistemi forestali, in particolare nelle aree in cui il fenomeno assume modalità di elevata e frequenza. Il ruolo degli incendi boschivi nel determinare modificazioni della diversità biologica è stato più volte sottolineato, tuttavia appare a tutt'oggi fortemente necessaria una maggiore comprensione delle relazioni tra il fuoco, la biodiversità e la gestione forestale. Il presente lavoro analizza l'influenza degli incendi sulla diversità specifica e strutturale in cenosi forestali mediterranee frequentemente percorse dal fuoco. L'area di studio è situata in provincia di Savona; sono stati selezionati per l'indagine 2 eventi caratterizzati da una notevole intensità del fronte di fiamma, avvenuti rispettivamente nell'agosto del 1998 e nell'agosto del 2003. In parcelle sperimentali (superficie 2.500 m quadrati) sono state comparate aree percorse da incendio nei due anni sopra indicati ed altre non interessate da eventi di elevata intensità negli ultimi decenni. I rilievi relativi alla componente arborea e arbustiva sono terminati, mentre il rilievo dello strato erbaceo è tuttora in corso. Sono stati utilizzati indici di diversità specifica e strutturale. E' stata inoltre analizzata la distribuzione spaziale nelle aree con indici afferenti alla Point Pattern Analysis. L'applicazione di detti indici ha permesso di evidenziare le modificazioni nella diversità specifica e strutturale indotte nei popolamenti analizzati dal passaggio del fuoco, quantomeno nel breve periodo. I risultati ottenuti potranno contribuire alla formulazione di linee guida per una gestione forestale sostenibile finalizzata alla conservazione della biodiversità
