Changes in the population of hunted animals in Latvia

The number of species of animals that are hunted and the quantitative and qualitative properties of the relevant populations of animals - these are the cornerstone for hunting organisations and hunters. Many factors have and effect in this area, but the purposeful and accidental behaviour of human beings is the key. The ideas in this article as based on official data about the number of animals hunted in Latvia. The author has also made use of ideas and data that he has obtained during practice and research work - uninterrupted studies between 1973 and 2006 in a specific location - the area of the largest forest in Kurzeme which is managed by the Kuldiga Forestry Division. The data have been extracted from a territory that is approximately 500 hectares in size. There has also been research in other parts of Latvia.
