Our previous study showed that the tubB1 β-tubulin gene of Glycine max was highly expressed only in rapidly elongating region of etiolated hypocotyls where auxin is abundantly present. The tubB1 promoter contains an auxin response element (AuxRE). Here, we show that auxin induced the tubB1 gene expression in soybean seedlings and tubB1 promoter-driven GUS expression in transgenic Arabidopsis. When tubB1 5'-GUS transgenic Arabidopsis was grown in the light, GUS expression was highly up-regulated by IAA or high temperature, implicating that tubB1 promoter can respond to auxin.
