The paper discusses the important findings and lessons learned from the implementation of a project on economic instruments in the Makiling Forest Reserve and Mt. Isarog Natural Park. For Mt. Makiling, economic instruments were developed and/or implemented, such as increased water user fees for forest recreation and ecotourism; updated product prices; permits to collect or to transport forest products and production sharing system for non-timber products; and watershed protection fee for water. For Mt. Isarog, a water user fee system was developed based on a contingent valuation study conducted in a city or four municipalities in Camarines Sur.
