The effect of formic acid on two-day old Apis mellifera adults was evaluated to determine the dose that is safe to bees. This information is needed in using formic acid for the control of bee mites. No mortalities were observed in the control and 10-20 percent formic acid (FA) solutions. At 25 percent, the mortality was 27 percent. From 30-55 percent, mortality ranged from 70-100 percent. Using Probit analysis, the LC50 of formic acid was 28.28 percent.
