Comparative efficacy of salinomycin sodium with herbal product (Acox) as a feed additive anticoccidial in broilers
2002
Aslam, S.
The study was designed to compare the anticoccidial efficacy of ionospheres anticoccidial, Salinomycin and a herbal product ACox. A total of 320, day-old broiler chicks were reared for 42 days in good husbandry and hygienic conditions. The birds were then randomly divided into 8 groups viz. A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H. Group C was (Salinomycin 12%) Kokcisan treated group. Group-D, E, F, G and H were treated with herbal products having same dose in all groups but difference in the active ingredient levels i.e. Acox1, ACox2, ACox3, ACox4 and ACox5 according to their ingredient levels. Group-A was non- infected non-medicated. Group-B was infected and non-medicated. All the groups except that of group-A were given challenge dose of infection on day 22nd. The oocyst count was done on 5th, 6th and 7th day infection. The feed consumption and weight gain were recorded weekly. Record of mortality was maintained and postmortem of dead birds were also performed. The data col lected was subjected to statistical analysis using one way analysis of variance and least significant difference (LSD) test, to detect the differences between treatments and means. It was concluded that ACox ingredient level 150 g/ton of feed had excellent activity in terms of weight gain, oocyst count and reduction in mortality as compared to all other levels of ACox and also especially to Kokcisan (Salinomycin sodium 12%), while Kokcisan (Salinomycin 12%) shows mortality and high oocyst count. ACox1 and ACox2 was also not so significant as anticoccidial. The results of this study will help to the feed millers in choosing best and economical feed additive anticoccidial.
