The effect of microbial phytase and citric acid additive in diets on minerals content in some sow tissues

The studies were carried out on 75 Polish Landrace x Polish Large White sows, assigned to 5 groups, 15 animals each. The animals of group I (positive control) received standard mixture with nutritional value according to NRC norms. Sows of group II (negative control) were fed the mixture without inorganic phosphorus additive. Group III was fed the mixture like group II but with microbial phytase additive (500 PU/kg mixture), group IV - like group II but with citric acid (20 g/kg mixture) and group V - like group II but with both of these additives. The content of minerals (Ca, Mg, Na, K, Fe, Cu and Zn) in the chosen tissues and organs of sows was determined after slaughter. Higher levels of total phosphorus and also calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper and iron were noted in logissimus muscle, liver, kidneys, heart, spleen and lungs of sows fed the mixtures supplemented by phytase.
