Testing the CROPWAT 7.0 computer model for the assessment of yield decline in spring wheat based on long-term field experiments

Water deficit as a factor limiting plant production is shown based on the results of field experiments of COBORU on spring wheat. The studies were carried out in Wielkopolska Province (Poland) where precipitation deficit, particularly that in late spring (May/June), often coincided with the greates water demands of plants and could thus be a limiting factor. Processing of the long-term field data allowed for estimating emperical indices of the decrease of grain yield of spring wheat. The indices were put into the FAO model CROPWAT 7.9 instead of the FAO 1979 indices. Obtained results approximate the values of simulated crops to the real ones though are still not fully satisfactory at the present stage of studies
