The aim of the study was to evaluate an effect of the intensity of agricultural use on changes in the activity of phosphatases in the soils developed from silts. The evaluation of the environment of the silty soils of Lublin Province (Poland) based on measurements of the activity of phosphatases showed that an intense agricultural use of chernozem and alluvial soil did not deteriorate their quality. The negative effect of use perennial monocultures on the activity of phosphatases was the most noticeable in haplic luvisols
