Vegetative development, blooming and fruiting of strawberry plants cultivated in soils with the addition of ekosorb

A field experiment was carried out on black and sandy soil in order to estimate the influence of the addition of hydrogel named Ekosorb to both types of soil on vegetative development, blooming and fruiting of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) plants cultivars Senga Sengana, Dukat, Kent and Elsanta. The results show that hydrogel used in dose of 3 or 6 g/cubic dm increased the amount of water in both black and sandy soil, and yet the influence of the addition of Ekosorb was more visible in black soil than in sandy soil. The presence of Ekosorb in soil increased the number of leaves, the mass of middle leaf, the content of chlorophyll, the number of stomata, the number of flowers and runners per plant in comparison to the control conditions (without hydrogel). The highest yield regardless of cultivar and soil was obtained in presence of 3 g/cubic dm hydrogel in both soil. Fruits from those plants had the highest mass as well as content of extract. Dose 6 g/cubic dm appeared too high and showed no effect or even negative effect on growth and yielding of strawberry. In experimental conditions hydrogel in that dose absorbed too little water. Therefore it competed with strawberry plants
