Architectural and landscape design of the Blue estate in Siechnice (under construction) has two innovative aspects as far as the Polish conditions are concerned. For the first time in Lower Silesia the sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) was punt into practice. The system is sympathetic to the environmental setting and involves such positive consequences as: the improvement of local climate, the protection of natural groundwater resouces, the reduction of costs in comparison with the traditional underground pipe system, the reduction of urbanization impact on flooding and water pollution (by the managemnt of runoff flow rates). The Blue estate is also secured by design through the implementation of the EDOCA (European Designing Out Crime Association) standards. Architects, developers and future inhabitants cooperated in this scope with the Dutch auditors. The both aspects of the project are moving away from the conventional thinking, designing and managing the urban areas
