Nutritive value of red (T. [Trifolium] pratense L.) and white clover (T. [Trifolium] repens L.) in different stages of growth related to ruminant requirements

Nutritive value of red clover (cv. K-9) and white clover (cv. K-33) in 3 phenophases (tillering, buding and flowering) in the 1st and the 2nd cut was investigated. In white clover crude protein content was not below 200 g/kg DM. White clover fulfill ruminant ration requirements for weight gain in whole vegetative period for NDF and ADF in two first phanophases. In red clover, optimum NDF and ADF for ruminant weight gain was in the 1st cut only in tillering phenophase and in the 2nd cut in both first phenophases. Macro and trace elements (except Zn) in red and white clover were in interval or higher than optimum requirements for different ruminants. Investigated legumes could supplement deficit of examined elements in grasses and other fodders.
