The effect of irrigation and grafting height on the growth in apple and sweet cherry cultivars

According to the results obtained, it may be inferred that the irrigation prior to grafting favourably affected graftwood performance in apple and adversely the performance in sweet cherry. This cultural practice applied both prior and after grafting in the following 1996 favourably affected the nursery stock growth in both fruit species. The effect of irrigation on nursery stock diameter was somewhat more pronounced as compared to that on height. In terms of apple and sweet cherry rootstocks, grafting on lower height (10, i.e. 15 cm) had a more favourable effect on nursery stock growth in both fruit species as compared to the one conducted on higher heights (30, i.e 25 cm).
