In this research the total number of bacteria, number of fungi and azotobacter in compacted and noncompacted soil under wheat, maize, sugar beet, soybean and sunflower was investigated. The number of investigated groups of microorganisms was high and representative for chernozem. The total number of bacteria and number of azotobacter were higher in noncompacted soil contrasted to the number of fungi which was higher in headlands. The crop also influenced the microbial development. The highest total number of bacteria was recorded under soybean and sunflower and the lowest under wheat. The number of fungi was higher under wheat and maize while the number of azotobacter was constant. The microbial number was higher in the upper layers of soil.
