On the deposits of the barren soil at the Kolubara lignite mine, Serbia, recultivation has been successfully performed with agricultural crops, as well as, with forest plants without so called humusing, i.e. depositing of a thin layer of humus. The survey of different groups of microorganisms and their quantity was done in deposited sands of a different stadium and under different agricultural and forest plants. Because of chemical properties important for interpreting of these results the composition of humus and pH were determined. Obtained results show a greater amount of humus and greater biogeny of this barren soil under woody perennials (forest cultures and orchards) in comparison with the barren soil under agricultural crops. Oligonitrofils represent a dominant physiological group of microorganisms, pointing to the unsatisfactory nitrogen regime of these substrate.
