Leptospirosis is contaginous disease in humans, domestic and wild animals that represents a significant health and economic problem in the world and in our country as well. Throughout the five-year period (1997-2001) the research was done in 9 communities within the region South Backa (Serbia) and 76095 samples of blood sera were analyzed. This number of samples represents 14.18% of reproductive heards of animals in the examined region. The samples were analyzed by the method of microscopic agglutination with 9 serotypes of live leptospira antigens: Leptospira pomona, Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae, Leptospira grippotyphosa, Leptospira sejroe, Leptospira tarassovi, Leptospira australis, Leptospira bataviae, Leptospira canicola and Leptospira hardjo. By analyzing the percentage and movement of the serotypes in animal sera during the five-year period, it is seen that the presence of different serotypes varies in a wide range interval, but also a dominant appearance of one leptospira serotype in each of the examined years is noticed. It can be concluded that in each of the examined years one of the serotypes was dominant for all of the analyzed animal species and domination of certain leptospira serotypes in certain animal species was noticed as well.
