Possibility of development and damage on prune by Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella Hbn.) population

Aim of the investigation presented in this paper is a possibility of development and the kind of damage by the Indian meal moth caterpillar in prune. Result of investigation showed that the females deposit eggs on prunes is 7.58 (10 pairs) to 22.38 (two pairs). The average number of fully grown caterpillars, pupa and imago are small. The highest mortality was achieved in stages of caterpillar (62%) and pupa (83.33%). Losses caused by insects in prune are difficult to estimate. Tha damage of prune weight from insect feeding is ignorable. The most serious loss on prune quality caused by insect infestation has been reflected in appearance of prune and presence of caterpillars. Fully grown larvae produce considerable webbing and coarse excreta, which decrease economic value.
