The aim of this research was to determine the effect of inoculation with Azotobacter chroococcum on number of microorganism in rhizosphere of sugarbeet in dependence of fertilization. A field trial was conducted at Rimski Sancevi (Serbia) experimental field in 2005, on a chernozem soil, with the sugarbeet hybrid variety Sara developed at Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, Serbia. Inoculation of sugarbeet seeds was performed with a culture of Azotobacter chroococcum strains in the concentration of 10**9/ml (NS-Betafixin), which was incorporated into soil immediately before planting. Differences were registered in population size which depended on both nitrogen dose and fertilization method. On average, the highest percentage of increase was in total number of microorganisms (45.7%) than in Azotobacter population size (17%).
