Samples of some representative soil types of the Vojvodina Province (chernozem, hydromorphic black soil, euthric cambisol and solonchak) taken in eight locations have been analyzed for total Mg content and general chemical soil properties. The analyses showed that CaCO3 content dropped from chernozem to hydromorphic black soil while it increased in all soils with depth. Soil reaction varied from slightly alkaline in chernozem to acid in hydromorphic black soil. Hydromorphic black soil and chernozem were distinguished for abundance in humus and total nitrogen while euthric cambisol and solonchak were somewhat poorer. These two parameters decreased with depth. The highest contents of available phosphorus and potassium were found in chernozem. Total Mg, extracted in concentrated nitric acid, was by far the largest in chernozem and its content chiefly increased with depth in all soil types under study.
