The occurrence and forecasting of the major field crop pests in the Vojvodina Province (Serbia) has been regularly reported since 1978. By inspection of soil samples from fields where cereals and sugar beet were grown in 2005, the following average number/square meter was recorded: 6.4 wireworms (Elateridae), 0.7 whitegrubs (Scarabaeidae), 0.22 caterpillars of Scotia spp., 0.0 adults of Zabrus tenebrioides, 0.05 adults of Bothynoderes punctiventris and 0.28 chrysalides of Mamestra spp. In late autumn, 12.5 adults/square meter of Senn pest (Eurygaster and Aelia), were found on overwintering sites. The number and injury of Cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera) significantly decreased in 2005. The number and injuries of ECB (Ostrinia nubilalis) were similar or slightly higher to previous year, while the population density of the WCR (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera) was similar or slightly lower. Harmful rodents (Mammals) were the major problems in plant production during 2005.
