In this paper the essential function and demands to design of tractor power transmission are pointed. In accordance with tractor function, as transport vehicle on the one hand and working vehicle one the other hand, the assessment criteria of tractor power transmission are formed. On these aspects the characteristics of modern tractor power transmission are compared and discussed the direction of its further development.
