During 2005 and 2006 in the Center for Vegetable Crops in Smederevska Palanka, Serbia, the impact of various substrates on growth, development and buttoning of tomato and pepper seedling was researched. The mixture of disinfected compost (produced in the Center for Vegetable Crops - Smederevska Palanka, Serbia), domestic peat (Dalashum from Tutin, Serbia), vermicompost (lubrihumus from Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia) and Zeoplant (enriched zeolite, produced by mine Nemetali - Vranjska Banja, Serbia) have been researched. The substrates and mixtures have been compared to foreign substrates. The seedlings was produced in styropore containers. Tomato variety Balkan F1 and pepper Zupska Rana were the material in this research. The results showed the significant differences of researched substrates, especially substrate mixture and enriched zeolite. Plants in these substrates were higher, formed more permanent leaves, buttoned earlier. Plants in substrate mixtures with zeolite had larger root, stalk and leaf mass.
