The aim of this study was to find out the effect of various methods of rearing of calvesûheifers on their milkability. In the experiment Holstein heifers were used. On the first day of life they were divided into five groups with different methods of rearing during the nursing period. After weaning the animals were kept in loose group housing The control of milkability was made in accordance with the norm STN 46 6107 on the fourth month of the first lactation. Besides milkability there was observed the number of somatic cells of milk. The results showed, that the highest milking (11.7 kg) was in the group reared by nursing cows (group c). This group had the longest time of milking (380 s) and milk from this group contained the most somatic cells (181.2 thousand per millilitre). The lowest milking was in groups a and e (from the 7th day reared in a pen with drinking feeder). Differences between observed groups were not significant, the various methods of rearing of heifers had no effect on their milkability.
