The dynamics of inorganic nitrogen in soil during the growing season of winter wheat as dependent on agrotechnical measures

Over 2001-2003, a stationary field experiment was conducted to study the effects of fertilisation and cultivation methods on the content of inorganic nitrogen in a soil under winter wheat. The date of soil sampling had the most significant influence on this content. Changes in weather conditions during the growing season were more important than differences in the sum of rainfall and temperatures between experimental years. Nitrate nitrogen predominated in the first year (2.06-24.66 mg per kg) and ammonium nitrogen in the second year (4.96-7.36 mg per kg), depending on soil moisture. Different fertilisation treatments exerted an important influence on a change to the content of inorganic nitrogen forms in the soil at level of a=0.05. The application of industrial fertilisers, according to their level in the soil, increased the content of inorganic nitrogen forms (6.84 mg N-NO3- per kg and 5.78 mg N-NH4+ per kg) compared to other fertilisation levels. Differences between ammonium nitrogen were more important (at level of alpha=0.01) due to soil moisture. The soil cultivation method had no substantial effect on the ammonification and nitrification processes in the soil.
