External and internal characteristic identified of Schibeidae and Pangasiidae which found in Mekong river in Nongkhai and Nakorn Phanom province

This study examined the taxonomy of some species of catfish in the families Schilbeidae and Pangasildae which were found in Mekong River in Nongkhai and Nakornphanom provinces. Ten species in two families were identified, two genera and two species of Schilbeidae, Laides hexanerna and Clupisoma sinensis, and three genera, eight species of Pangasiidae, Pangasianodon glgas, P. hypophthalmus, Pteropangasius pleurotaenia, Pangasius lamaudii, P. conchophilus, P. sanitwongsei, P. bocourti and P. macronema. Distinctive characters for identification of species are external features including head shapes, mouth shapes, mouth angle, size and number of barbel, isthmus shapes plate, eyes position, color patterns, type of tail and internal features sucs as vomerine teeth, characteristic of gill raker from the first gill arch, air bladder morphology and intestine length.
